Tire Marks on Sealed San Diego Driveways: Clean Before Recoating
Learn why tire marks on sealed concrete need compatible cleaning and coating assessment before a San Diego driveway is resealed.

A dark mark does not always mean failed protection
Tires can leave residue on both sealed and unsealed concrete. A visible mark alone does not establish that the entire sealer has failed. Look at whether there is surface transfer, worn coating or lifting film. Where cars turn in the same spot every day, localized wear can differ from the rest of the driveway.
Start with a compatible cleaning test
Aggressive solvents and excessive pressure can damage a decorative finish. Identify the current coating if possible and test an appropriate cleaning method in a small area. The goal is to improve the mark without stripping healthy surrounding sealer. Embedded discoloration may remain after loose residue is removed.
Investigate lifting or peeling
If coating is lifting where vehicles park, another coat may not resolve the underlying problem. Preparation, product compatibility, film thickness and reopening conditions need review. Ask for an assessment before approving full recoating. Do not use a glossy finish as a substitute for diagnosing adhesion problems.
Plan vehicle access for the actual product
Cleaning and coating have different reopening requirements. Keep cars away until the selected product permits vehicle traffic, not merely pedestrian access. Follow the applicable product data rather than a universal overnight rule. Include parking arrangements in the schedule so residents are not forced to cross a curing surface.
