Concrete Sealing Around Joints and Cracks in San Diego
Understand how cracks, control joints and repairs affect a San Diego concrete sealing project before choosing a finish.

Sealer is not structural repair
A surface sealer and a crack repair material have different jobs. Sealer cannot be relied on to stabilize a moving slab or bridge every crack. Before approving driveway sealing, identify broken edges, uneven sections and recurring cracks. Significant movement or trip hazards may require assessment by a qualified concrete repair professional.
Keep joints part of the plan
Control joints and expansion joints are intentional features, not simply dirt lines to coat over. Their condition affects cleaning and application. Ask how joints will be treated and whether existing flexible materials are compatible with the selected product. Avoid assuming that one coating can be used indiscriminately across every joint material.
Repairs may look different
A repaired section can absorb sealer differently from surrounding concrete. Even careful coating does not promise an invisible patch. Photograph repairs and include them in a test area when practical. Decide whether the priority is protection, uniform sheen or a more involved cosmetic restoration before setting expectations.
Sequence the work deliberately
Any repair materials need their specified preparation and curing conditions before compatible sealing. Cleaning, repair, drying and coating should be scheduled as distinct steps. A written scope should identify repair exclusions so a washing and sealing quote is not mistaken for a full concrete reconstruction proposal.
