Concrete Sealing and Landscaping in San Diego: Which Comes First?
Coordinate landscaping and concrete sealing in San Diego to avoid dirt, irrigation overspray and early traffic on a new finish.

Coordinate trades before reserving the date
Landscaping, painting and concrete sealing can affect one another. Soil delivery, wheelbarrows and irrigation installation may contaminate or damage a newly coated surface. Share the broader project schedule before booking sealing. The best sequence depends on where other trades need access, not a single rule for every property.
Finish dusty and disruptive work first where practical
When feasible, complete work that will repeatedly cross or dirty the concrete before final cleaning and coating. Keep paint overspray and construction residue out of the preparation area. New concrete and repair materials still need their product-specific curing and preparation requirements; a landscaping deadline does not override them.
Check final irrigation and drainage
New beds or sprinkler adjustments can change where water reaches pavement. Confirm that irrigation does not spray across the coating zone and that drainage issues are understood. Persistent wet edges should be assessed before sealing. A surface coating cannot redirect runoff or correct a poorly graded planting bed.
Protect the reopening window
Agree on barriers and alternate access for workers, residents and deliveries. Foot traffic and vehicle access may have different permitted return times. Ask the selected sealer’s instructions to guide the schedule. Reopening too early to accommodate another trade can undermine an otherwise careful preparation and application plan.
