Why sun exposure and slab temperature matter when scheduling concrete sealing in San Diego, beyond the daily weather forecast.

Air temperature is only part of the decision
A sun-exposed slab can behave differently from a shaded walkway even on the same day. Concrete sealing should follow the chosen product’s application conditions, including relevant substrate temperature limits. A comfortable weather forecast is not enough to establish that an inland San Diego driveway is ready for coating.
Inspect shade and exposure across the site
Record areas with afternoon sun, tree shade and persistent dampness. These may need different work timing. Wind, humidity and irrigation can also affect application and drying. Avoid setting a guaranteed start date without a weather review, particularly when the project covers both sheltered patios and exposed drive lanes.
Do not compensate with heavier coats
Applying more material is not a reliable fix for difficult conditions. Excessive film build can create appearance or curing problems depending on the product. Follow the specified coverage and application method. A product data sheet and surface assessment should guide the plan, not the idea that thicker always means longer lasting.
Allow the schedule to change when necessary
A good scope explains how unsuitable conditions will be handled and when the crew will reassess. Reserve access for cleaning, drying, application and reopening separately. If conditions fall outside the manufacturer’s instructions, postponing application can be more appropriate than forcing the coating into a narrow appointment window.
